Hi Lorraine,
I don't know the rules governing ESA, DLA and voluntary work but I'd be interested to know myself. I know there is something called permitted work ... I'd have to look it up again ... can't remember off hand.
I do around two hours voluntary work per week at my children's school and am claiming ESA and DLA.

Lorraine, do NOT think you are worthless! Just the fact you are wanting to do voluntary work while you are ill proves what a lovely person you are! I hope you can get something that you enjoy doing and with hours that you can cope with.
Love, Doreen xx

Hi Lorraine,
I completely agree with you. It's all just box-ticking and window dressing. There do not seem to be any REAL measures in place to help people like us. I've been assessed as "limited capability to work" and have tried several avenues to find out exactly what that means and what their expecations of me are without any joy. It is a very stressful process and does nothing to either encourage people to do something worthwhile or move towards better health.
I'm seeing my Working Links advisor on Friday so I'll ask her about the status of voluntary work and let you know.
